tonight, in an effort to stimulate my interest, i cruised back thru threads of the past month or so.
while i found a couple topics of mild interest, and a couple more in which i found it worth effort to make personal comment, i was mostly bored.. i have come to grips with my past religious history.

@Vikesgirl, It is amazing how similar all of our experiences were in this "religion". We all were told to think, act and even look alike. i attended a few different halls, but it was really all the same. That is why the ex-jw community is such a unique community. It is hard to explain to someone who never experienced it.
this guy had a serious accident and had limbs amputed but when interviewed claims very logically that while waiting for help jesus appeared and told him..."jim, everything will be okay, it's not your time...i need you to be a missionary for me..." this guy talks about it like it's nothing!
are these people for real or just lying.....i agree with marx who said "religion is the opium of the people.

The most interesting near death experiences are from children. They are not so culturally aligned as adult experiences are.
When I watch that experience, I can't help but ask why Jesus doesn't let others know he is there instead of this one man?

Sometimes I log on and can't find anything that interests me. It seems like everything has already been discussed.
Other times I just feel that need to relate to others who have shared a strange journey with me.
We all went to different kingdom halls together.
i was reading the thread about hoboken's jc meeting and started thinking about the rule prohibiting recording devices in such meetings.
has anyone on the board tried to challenge this rule?.
on its face, the rule is absurd.
If it is legal in your state, you have the right to have a record of any judicial action they take against you. They won't allow a witness or note taking.
That leaves a hidden recorder. Their rules, I guess.
Twitch said it right. Mocking a religion is not a good way to reach people. I don't liked to be mocked, personally.

Another one was, Would man have been able to accomplish anything (there is nothing that would be unattainable for them) if God would not have confused their languages?

reading other people's posts, its obvious that those of us who still have contact with our jw family are constantly bombarded with sick propaganda designed to make us feel guilty and scared.
we are all so happy to be out, yet these contacts with our family revive all the bad feelings.. my parents are always calling me to meet up with them for coffee or something.
i don't want them to be a part of this new life of mine because i don't need that kind of crap all the time.
Do what they do when other people talk about their religion to them. Just smile and nod. Then move on with what you want to say.
Most of us here were once in the same mind as your parents. Treat them how you would have liked to be treated. Try to get down to the real person under the mind control and show them love.
i watched this movie today and wow, very good storyline and special effects.. i noticed there's alot of borrowed themes from the bible and slapped into the movie.. i like nicolas cage and i think he did a superb job with the movie.. anyone else seen it?.

I likes it. My husband did not care for the ending, but I thought it was good. My dub son really liked it, so he must have seen Bible themes in it.

you aren't in charge of anyone or anything, and when you realize it, you will set yourself free to really live.. humans tend to categorize, label, and set up expectations.
cultivating a zen attitude means simply living, experiencing, and being without categories, labels, or expectations.. "tragedy" is only "tragedy" because we label it as "tragedy".
removing the label and simply experiencing the experience can help negative feelings pass and can turn a "tragedy" into a learning opportunity.. when humans experience catastrophic loss, it is more difficult to put things into perspective, but as with less serious losses, major loss is difficult because we attach our expectations and false sense of ownership, fears, and regrets to the things we have lost.. letting go of the attachments to our feelings of pain, grief, and sorrow can help us move through any experience..
There are different ways to achieve that feeling of inner peace. Letting go of all expectations and the need for control is relevant in each case.
I took something called biofeedback years ago. They would wire you up to a machine and have you imagine a peaceful place. You can actually lower your heart rate, blood pressure and even your body temperature. Very relaxing feeling. Eventually, you learn to do this anywhere.
The key was to quiet the mind. Meditation is a learned art. I agree that the divine is within each of us.
